Todd Smith, Pavement Protectors in Branford, CT

Todd Smith Pavement ProtectorsPlease describe your ideal customer/client.
Our ideal customer is a home or business owner looking to maintain, repair and brighten up their asphalt driveway or parking lot.

What are your primary responsibilities?
I run just about everything at Pavement Protectors from sales to scheduling, customer service, billing, advertising, inventory, maintaining equipment, etc. but I enjoy what I do and I have a great team of guys that I work with so it’s not overwhelming.

What do you love about your job?
I love exceeding customer’s expectations. We often get calls or letters from customers letting us know how great of a job we did on their property and how much they enjoyed dealing with us.

Name your favorite Chamber service, program or event.
I truly enjoy the business connections hour the most both personally and professionally. I always like meeting new people and the BCH meetings have helped me expand our business to people I normally wouldn’t be able to get in front of to speak to.

What are some of your interests or hobbies?
I like to think of myself as a fairly decent artist, I paint murals in my spare time as a side job. Additionally, I love sports and staying active. I help out with a youth fitness program for boys and girl’s high school sports teams in Branford to help them stay in shape year round.

What is your personal philosophy on how to be successful?
Customer service is the most important thing to me. This may sound cheesy but I truly think if you’re a good person and you care about your customers needs as if they were your own, no matter what business you’re in, you’ll be successful – or at the very least you’ll be appreciated. A lot of people want to make money but very few want to help others in the process. People trust me with their money and their homes. I do my best to make them happy and exceed their expectations.

Each month, we profile a Chamber member, who is randomly drawn from attendees at the monthly Business Connections Hour, held the third Wednesday of the month.
